The management reserves the right to close the establishment, according to the weather conditions.
WARNING
Following the Meteorological Warning 016/2026, issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Ocean and Atmosphere, in the orange color category, for the period between 02:00 pm and 11:00 pm on 04/02/2026, it is informed that access to Pico Mountain is closed for security reasons until 11:00 pm on 04/02/2026, in accordance with what is established in paragraph 1 of article 11 of the Regulation on access to the Pico Mountain Natural Reserve, in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, approved in Annex to Ordinance no. 25/2020, of March 11, amended and republished by Ordinance no. 64/2023, of July 27.
We also inform that, under the terms of paragraph 4 of article 11 of the Regulation for access to the Pico Mountain Nature Reserve, in the case of a yellow weather warning issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Ocean and Atmosphere, access to Pico Mountain is not recommended, therefore, between 08:00 am and 02:00 pm on 04/02/2026 and between 11:00 pm on 04/02/2026 and 05:00 am on 05/02/2026, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, for safety reasons, does not recommend access to Pico Mountain.
The Mountain House will be closed on 04/02/2026.
Prices
Fees to climb the Pico Mountain | Individual climbs
Climb to the Furna Abrigo : € 5.00
Climb to the Crater : € 15.00
Climb to the Piquinho/Pico Pequeno : € 25.00
Overnight Stay at the Crater : € 10.00
Resident of the Azores* : Free
*Upon presentation of the Citizen Card.
Children up to 12 years of age must be accompanied by an individual of legal age during the visit.
Minors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by their parental authority or an individual of legal age, duly authorized by a written statement of the first, when climbing Pico Mountain.
People with disability or noticeable impairment legally recognized must contact the environmental centre directly.
Tracking equipment (GPS):
It is given to each visitor a tracking equipment. At the time the tracking equipment is provided, visitors can choose to pay an exclusion of liability tax in the amount of 30€.
Not returning the equipment or damaging it, requires the payment of the following values:
Not returning the GPS with exclusion of liability tax: 270€
Not returning the GPS without exclusion of liability tax: 300€
Damage of the GPS without exclusion of liability tax: 300€
