How to get there
Leave Ponta Delgada by the highway towards the east until you find the exit that indicates "Água de Pau (Nascente)". Take the second exit off the roundabout and continue along the Regional Road until you pass the beach of Água d'Alto. About 400 metres further on you will find a parking lot on your right where you can leave your car. Alternatively, you can park it at the beginning of the trail following the cement path that is 200 metres in front of the parking lot on the left.

Appropriate footwear for walking, waterproof jacket, hat, sunscreen and water.

This trail begins in Praia place, by a dirt path, and ends on the shores of Lagoa do Fogo (lagoon).
Along the trail, there are the ruins of a pulping plant factory of Phormium tenax, whose leaves were used such in the rope making as in the confection of rough textiles, and an area with several water catchments.
You can also enjoy wide panoramic views over Água d'Alto, Vila Franca and its islet.
This trail begins about 1 kilometre from the Praia place, by a dirt path that crosses an area of pasture.
When you reach a water tank, follow the path to the right through a forest area. Here you can find the ruins of a pulping plant factory of Phormium tenax, whose leaves were used in the rope making and the confection of rough textiles.
Reaching the new fork road follow again the path to the right, where you can enjoy wide panoramic views over Água d'Alto, Vila Franca and its islet.
After walking about 500 metros, you will arrive at a derivation channel that follows the trail to a small dam. This zone corresponds to a deeply embedded valley, where in addition to the dam, you can find some water raisings.
The final part of the trail runs along the Ribeira da Praia (stream) to the shores of Lagoa do Fogo.
