This maritime area has about 876.2 hectares and confronts the Fajã of Cubres and the Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo, in the north of the island.
In this area it is possible to see, in the lower locals, small sedimentary spots with rolled stones of varied dimensions. The characteristic fauna includes Sphyraena viridensis, Epinephelus marginatus, Sparisoma cretense, among others.
It is identified as the Special Area of Conservation (SAC) Costa Noroeste e Ponta do Topo within the Natura 2000 network.
