At the beginning of the 1950s, a group of winemakers from Pico Island, aware of the need for a structure that had a good production and economic capacity, decided to set up the Pico Viticultural Cooperative - Picowines CRL. It was registered at the Commercial Registry Office in February 1950, with the main objective to produce liqueur and common wines, such as Lajido, Frei Gigante or Terras de Lava.
Picowines currently has about 240 associates.
