This protected area occupies about 151 hectares, dominated by tall woodlands, with some areas of vineyards in production, especially near the villages.
The flora species Viburnum treleasei has a regular presence here, giving this area originality.
This area is also a geosite of Azores UNESCO Global Geopark.
