Situated in the Zona Central e Falésias da Costa Oeste Protected Landscape Area, the Poço do Bacalhau (pond) presents as a waterfall located in Ribeira das Casa (stream) that falls from around 90 metres of altitude, falling in a natural pond surrounded by endemic and introduced vegetation. The waters of this waterfall are from springs located in the zones of higher altitude of the island that catch the humidity of the dense clouds that accumulate above the Laurel Forest and the extensive layer of Sphagnum spp.. This layer works as a regulator and distributor of the amount of the water received, slowly and steadily.
