Protected Area of Resources Management

This protected area corresponds to a marine zone with 133 hectares, which surrounds the Morro de Castelo Branco.

This area presents a volcanic structure consisting of lava flows of irregular morphology, under which are some formations of sedimentary nature, particularly small deposits of pebble and large boulders arranged chaotically. The seabed has vertical walls with fissures corresponding to small caves.

Characteristic fauna includes the Mycteroperca fusca, the Sphyraena viridensis, the Felimare tricolor, the Caretta caretta, and the Tursiops truncates, and the dominant flora consists of brown algae, such as Zonaria tournefortii, and red algae, such as Corallina officinalis.
