Pico Alto

With about 587 metres of altitude, Pico Alto is the highest point of Santa Maria and the best place to have a panoramic view of the entire island. You can observe several endemic species of flora and fauna. At the top, you can easily see the contrasts between the occidental and oriental parts of the island. The occidental part is lower, flat and of yellow-brown colour, while the oriental part is more humid and wooded, covered with green highlands.
