Grupo Desportivo Gonçalo Velho, based in Frei Gonçalo Velho Street, parish and county of Vila do Porto was founded on 6 July 1945, with the first designation "Gonçalo Velho Football Club."
It is currently the oldest Club of Santa Maria, having written many highly successful pages in local sport and across borders.
