In 2009, the Corvo Biological Reserve was created in the Topo area, under the project “Sanctuary Islands for Seabirds”.

This reserve serves to test different theories on seabirds, including their susceptibility to predators such as cats and rats. Its creation was an important step in the process of fauna conservation on the island.

This sanctuary is crucial, not only for the Calonectris borealis, but also for the Hydrobates castro, the Puffinus puffinus and the Puffinus lherminieri baroli, birds of great importance in the history of Flores and Corvo.

Beyond its important scientific role, the Reserve offers its visitors an interpretive circuit that passes through the places of highest scenic value.
