Buteo buteo rothschildi

Origin: Azores

Conservation Status: at risk of being threatened, according to the evaluation of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

It is observed hovering over farmlands while hunting. Lives in cedars forests, mixed forests and bush areas, and also close to pastures and crop fields. It is the only bird of diurnal prey. It has a length of 43 to 57 centimetres and 1.13 to 1.28 metres of wingspan. It feeds itself mainly of small mammals such as rabbits and mice, and birds, and sometimes of insects and worms.
