Conservation Status: population numbers are worrying, being a priority species protected by the Birds Directive.
Nest in rocks’ cavities. The population of the Azores constitute 63% of the European population (about 1000 couples). It is a bird of community interest whose conservation requires the designation of Special Protection Areas (SPA).
