New meteorological station installed in the municipality of Nordeste, São Miguel, as part of LIFE IP CLIMAZ

Under the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project, the sub-action C11.2 - Increasing coverage and improving the accuracy of climate and water monitoring is being implemented. To this end, the “Cancela do Cinzeiro” weather station was installed in Nordeste, on the island of São Miguel.

The location of the automatic weather station was strategically selected to improve knowledge and monitor meteorological records in the area upstream of the Grota do Cinzeiro hydrological basin, which has been identified as a high-risk flood basin under the Flood Risk Management Plan for the Autonomous Region of the Azores for the period 2022 to 2027.

The “Cancela do Cinzeiro” meteorological station provides records of wind speed and direction, air temperature and humidity, water temperature and pressure, evaporation, precipitation and solar radiation.
