World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought - June 17

Aiming to halt desertification and drought, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change (SRAAC), under the project LIFE IP AZORES NATURA, has implemented a number of measures that promote the conservation of priority habitats of peat bogs , also contribute to the retention of rainwater, supply of natural water reservoirs and the preservation of soil and its vegetation. Through LIFE IP CLIMAZ, also coordinated by the SRAAC, the elaboration of a Management Plan for Droughts and Water Scarcity of the Azores (PSE-A), strategic and crucial as a guiding and regulating instrument for situations of risk and response to needs in drought situations.
