March 25, 2024
The 6th monitoring visit of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project took place on 19, 20 and 21 March on the islands of Pico and Terceira. This visit was attended by the coordinating beneficiary, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, and all the associated beneficiaries, the Regional Directorate for the Environment and Climate Change, the Regional Directorate for Maritime Policies, the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) and the La Palma Biosphere Reserve.
The monitoring visits to the LIFE projects are carried out by CINEA (the coordinating agency for the implementation of the European Union's LIFE projects) and are intended to promote an exchange of ideas and suggestions, as well as an assessment of the progress of the work carried out by the project.
During the first day, was given a presentation on the general state of the project and the progress of the actions of each of the beneficiaries. This presentation gave the monitors a general idea of the progress and difficulties experienced so far, as well as suggestions and ideas for better implementation of each action.
On the second day, a visit to some of the project's intervention areas on the island of Pico took place to assess the conservation actions carried out. The following day, the project team and the CINEA monitors travelled to the island of Terceira to visit some of the intervention areas.
At the end of the visit, the monitors drew some conclusions that helped the project team improve some aspects and continue the progress of its actions.
The LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project is in its fifth year of implementation and aims to improve the conservation status of species and habitats under the Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive by 2027.
With the financial support of the LIFE Programme of the European Union.
