LIFE SNAILS project at the European Researchers' Night

At the 2023 edition of MacaroNight Azores – European Researchers' Night, an event organized by ExpoLab, the LIFE SNAILS project took part in a practical and dynamic activity, promoting the project and applying methodologies to produce scientific knowledge about the species targeted by the project and their habitat.

The event, with a regional dimension, took place over two long days at Portas do Mar, on the island of São Miguel, and was attended by more than 3,000 citizens, schoolchildren and people curious about climate change.

At the LIFE SNAILS project stand, participants had the chance to simulate field work by collecting snail samples and identifying the specimens with the Azorean malacology expert, Professor António Frias Martins. The activity culminated in raising awareness of the value of endemic species of fauna and flora and the importance of LIFE projects as a tool for nature conservation in the Azores.
