Oct. 18, 2023
At the beginning of September, a group of 24 students and 4 teachers from the University of Plymouth, in the United Kingdom, visited the island of São Miguel. During their stay, they had the opportunity to participate in some conservation actions of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, namely in the removal of the invasive alien species Gunnera tinctoria in Pico do Carvão, with approximately 3 tons of rhizomes and inflorescences of this invasive species, and in the collection and conservation of seeds of endemic and native species, in Pico do Ferro and Pomar das Furnas, with the process of cleaning, drying and packaging the seeds being exemplified.
The interaction between universities and the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project contributes significantly to the dissemination of the project, as well as to the sharing of knowledge and volunteering, within the project's E2, E3 and E5 actions.
