“Dobble invasive” is a success in schools in the Azores!
Aug. 14, 2023
The LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, developed in 2022 a fun card game entitled “Dobble invasoras”. This card game seeks to test the attention and reasoning ability of players who try to look for the duplicate symbol on their cards and on the opponents’ cards and/or on the cards that are in the center of the game.
Therefore, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project recreated this game, introducing new images based on some invasive alien species existing in the Azores, with some means of expansion and introduction being also present, as well as control tools that are at our disposal to combat the impacts of these species in our ecosystem.
The idea is to make young people aware of some invasive species, as well as examples of good practices to avoid new introductions of alien species in the Azores and action to do when sighting these species.
In fact, this game, which is included in the School Environmental Awareness Activities Offer for the 2022/2023 academic year of the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, has already been requested, this year alone and to date, by 24 schools and ATL's, with the participation of more than 1300 students, asserting itself more and more as an effective tool in the dissemination of good practices with regard to invasive alien species.
This activity will remain in the educational offer for the next school year, and can be requested through the usual contacts.
