National Nature Conservation Day

National Nature Conservation Day

July 28, 2023

The National Nature Conservation Day was established in Portugal precisely 25 years ago, through the Council of Ministers Resolution No. 73/98, of June 29, with the aim of paying homage to the associative movements in defense of the environment, through of one of its most prestigious institutions, the League for the Protection of Nature. This resolution thus established an annual moment dedicated to reflection on the preservation of nature.

When compared to other European countries, Portugal has a wide diversity of landscapes, geological heritage and biodiversity. Within this diversity, a high number of endemisms and species are considered relics from a biogeographical and/or genetic point of view.

This treasure constitutes a factor that differentiates us, values and affirms our identity and environmental excellence, both at European and worldwide level.

On this day, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change is developing environmental awareness activities in the Environmental Centres of the Region, with the aim of educating and awakening in young people an interest in nature preservation.

Take care of nature and it will take care of you!
