LIFE IP AZORES NATURA promotes planting of endemic and native species in Lagoa do Fogo

July 12, 2023

At the end of June, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, planted more than 800 specimens of native and endemic flora at the viewpoint and access trail to Lagoa do Fogo, on the island of São Miguel.

This is one of the intervention areas of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project where, since the beginning of the project, the removal of exotic and invasive flora species has been carried out, as well as the planting of native species, with the aim of recovering this habitat.

This action had the collaboration, through the supply of planting, of the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources, as well as planting produced in Pomar das Furnas, which is managed by the São Miguel Environment and Climate Change Service.

All these works fall under Actions C4.1 - Good practices for the conservation of terrestrial habitats and C8.1 - Control and eradication of invasive plants in restored terrestrial habitats of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project.
