Eco-Schools Day at Velas EBS

At the end of the school year, the Executive Board of Escola Básica e Secundária de Velas, through the Eco-schools program team, promoted the “Eco-schools Day”.

This day had several activities in partnership with various entities on the island of São Jorge. The collaboration of the Island Environment and Climate Change Service, through the Division of Citizenship and Environmental Education, was requested to organize a workshop entitled "Waste - what to do?", sensitizing the school community to the reuse, reduction and the recycling/separation of the different residues. During this day, two exhibitions created by the school's students were also exhibited: “The world of bees” and the “Ecocodes Posters”.

In parallel, various activities took place in the common room, from the promotion of the games “Dobble Invasoras” from the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project and “Beetles & Companhia” from the LIFE BEETLES project, to the inauguration of the Eco-schools Panel and the presentation of a work by Artvismo – Caixalixo.

The Eco-Schools Flag was presented to the school community, in the presence of the President of the Executive Council and the Director of the Environment and Climate Change Service of São Jorge.
At the end, there was also a musical moment by the students of the school, using instruments made with waste.
