LIFE SNAILS promotes activity within the Week of Invasive Species 2023: Portugal and Spain (SEI 2023)
June 20, 2023
During the Invasive Species Week 2023: Portugal and Spain (SEI 2023), the Regional Secretariat for Environment and Climate Change promoted a field trip with the purpose of invasive vegetation control and environmental education, in the intervention areas of the LIFE SNAILS project, in Santa Maria Island.
Eleven Explorer Scouts from Grouping 394 - Aeroporto participated in this action, who, in one morning, carried out the maintenance of the already intervened areas in the Pico Alto area, cutting the sprouts of the species cork oak (Hedychium gardnerianum) in a total area of 800 square meters.
Motivated by the active participation in the cause of nature conservation, this Grouping has assumed the participation in the development of the whole process of reconversion of 400 square meters in the intervention area of the LIFE SNAILS project, where the manual cutting of invasive herbaceous vegetation and planting of endemic and native trees and shrubs of the Azores will be carried out.
