LIFE BEETLES | Intervention Areas
March 30, 2021
The intervention area PIC 2_3_4 is inserted on the Protected Area for Habitat or Species Management of Lagoa do Caiado, in Pico Island. It is characterized for its important area of Macaronesian Forest of Juniperus spp., among other habitats of international interest, included in the Habitats Directive. This is a shelter and feeding zone for multiple birds, being as well a priority habitat for the endemic beetle of Pico Island, Pseudanchomenus aptinoides. Because of its easy access, via forest road and pasture lands, it is already visible some IAS outbreaks. Through the project, it is intended to establish the necessary means to maintain this area as pristine as possible.
