Faial ECCS cleans the sand at Porto Pim Beach

The Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, through the Faial Environment and Climate Change Service (ECCS), has been continuously cleaning the sand at Porto Pim Beach to remove the invasive algae Rugulopteryx okamurae.

For the Azores Regional Government, it is a priority to find solutions that increase the capacity to deal with this problem and evaluate the potential use and economic value of this alga.

Since the beginning of this year, it is estimated that, so far, around 10,000 tonnes of algae have been removed from Porto Pim bay.
