Field trip of students from the University of Education Karlsruhe
May 15, 2023
The LIFE BEETLES project recently received students from the University of Education Karlsruhe, Germany. The visit took place on the island of Pico, where the students visited the intervention areas of this project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change.
The visit began with a contextualization of the natural and geological values of the Mistério da Prainha Nature Reserve, where the LIFE BEETLES project is monitoring the possible existence of invasive species, acting early on them. It was followed by a demonstration of the methodologies used in the scientific monitoring of arthropods and the impact of conservation actions on the project's target species.
Finally, the group of students contributed to the renaturalisation of the old pastureland of the Lagoa do Caiado, with the planting of 240 individuals of three endemic species: Short Leafed Juniper (Juniperus brevifolia), Azorean Heather (Erica azorica) and Azorean Blueberry (Vaccinium cylindraceum).
The LIFE BEETLES project thanks the participants for their enthusiasm and sharing of experiences!
