Presented on Corvo a game about invasive species dedicated to primary and middle school children

April 19, 2023

The game "Dobble Invasoras" was presented last week, on Corvo island, on the occasion of the statutory visit of the Regional Government of the Azores, addressing the invasive species theme and dedicated to children of primary and middle school.

The game, promoted by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change through the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project - Active Protection and Integrated Management of the Natura 2000 Network, aims to inform children, in a fun and interactive way, about the invasive flora and fauna species, as well as their introduction methods and the tools we can use to fight them.

The game's main goal is to first correctly identify the common symbol between the cards and say it out loud. Between each card, there is always one, and only one, common symbol.

In this way, and since one can also learn by playing, "Dobble Invasoras" was created to be distributed to schools on all the islands, thus becoming a tool to raise the awareness of the school population to the recognition of the value of biodiversity conservation.

The game was presented to the children of Corvo by the President of the Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, by the Secretary for Education, Sofia Ribeiro, by the Secretary for the Environment, Alonso Miguel, and by the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project manager, Diana Pereira.

After Corvo, the game, in board format, will now go to the other schools of the several islands of the Region.

The game is part of the School Environmental Awareness Activities Offer for the 2022/2023 school year, of the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change.

The Regional Government of the Azores ended today the 2023 statutory visit to the island of Corvo.
