Congratulations to the Furnas do Enxofre Natural Monument!

The Furnas do Enxofre correspond to the most important fumarolic field of Terceira island and are part of the Planalto Central da Terceira Ramsar Site under the Ramsar Convention. This priority geosite of the Azores UNESCO Global Geopark has regional relevance and interest and scientific, educational and geotouristic use.
It was in 2004 that Furnas do Enxofre and Algar do Carvão were classified as Natural Monuments. This recognition aims to preserve the natural value of these places and the integrity of their characteristics and of the surrounding areas. To mark this date, the information panels of the Furnas do Enxofre Interpretive Circuit were renewed, with updated content that aims to improve the understanding of the natural elements present in this place.
