Planting of Rumex azoricus and Angelica lignescens in Serra Devassa, São Miguel

Feb. 20, 2023

On 16 January, a team from the São Miguel Environment and Climate Change Service carried out a planting near Lagoa Rasa, in the area of Serra Devassa (Sete Cidades), as part of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project.

To ensure the success of this planting, were chosen the two most sheltered locations on the Serra Devassa trail, where 131 individuals of Azorean Dock (Rumex azoricus) and 10 individuals of Azorean Angelica (Angelica lignescens) were planted. Each individual was marked with GPS to monitor the survival and growth of the plants.

For this plantation, individual wood fibre protectors were used, with the aim of testing the suitability of these biodegradable protectors in the atmospheric conditions prevailing in the Azores.
