Alonso Miguel awards two tourism enterprise on São Miguel island with the Miosotis Azores 2022

The Regional Secretary for the Environment and Climate Change, Alonso Miguel, awarded the Miosotis Azores Award to two tourism enterprises on São Miguel island for the 2022 edition: the tourism project in rural areas of Casas da Chaminé, in Nordeste council, and the Furnas Botique Hotel, in Povoação council.
“With the awarding of the Miosotis prize, we intend to stimulate the Region's tourism units to this mission, which summons us all, of promoting and protecting our natural heritage, supporting innovation and assisting in the implementation of good environmental practices in tourism industry, namely at the level of the efficient management of resources, namely water and electricity, the correct management of waste and the protection and enhancement of biodiversity,” said Alonso Miguel.
The Regional Secretary also said that “the conservation of natural heritage and the promotion of environmental quality represent pillars of action of this Government, and that through the implementation of environmentally appropriate behaviour, it is possible to move towards a harmonious tourism growth”.
This environmental award, which has its first edition in 2012, is of utmost importance in recognizing the environmental performance of tourist lodging units in the Autonomous Region of the Azores. Youth hostels and tourist enterprises referred to in the Legal Regime for the Installation, Exploration and Operation of Tourist Enterprises in the Azores (RJET-A) are eligible for the award, except for camping and caravanning parks.
