LIFE SNAILS develops work to obtain baselines of the ecosystem conditions of the intervention areas

Monitoring the impacts of conservation actions and improvement of the habitat available for land snail species, the target of the LIFE SNAILS project, are a priority for the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change.

Thus, means were also set up to study the arthropod populations that will serve as indicators of the “naturalness” and the evolution of habitat quality throughout the project's implementation.

The first field samples have already been collected and handed to specialists for analysis. The main objective of this analysis is to establish a reference situation with basic guidelines for assessing the conditions of the ecosystem in the intervention areas in Pico Alto, Ribeira da Praia watershed and surrounding agricultural areas.
