LIFE IP CLIMAZ receives 3rd monitoring visit

Dec. 20, 2022

The LIFE IP CLIMAZ project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, hosted its 3rd monitoring visit on the 9, 10 and 11 November, on the island of São Miguel, which aimed to assess the development of the project during the first two years of execution.

The visit began at the Furnas Monitoring and Research Centre, with a meeting attended by all project beneficiaries, in order to discuss and assess the status of the various project actions already under development and to be developed during the coming years.

In the remaining days, visits were made to some of the intervention areas of the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project on the island of São Miguel, which included the Nodeste Forest Nurseries and several plots where native forest will be installed, replacing invasive forests and degraded pastures. It was also made a visit to the farm where the tests for the reduction of methane emissions by cattle will take place, and to several places where biodiverse pastures, resilient to climate change, will be installed. In these places, it was already possible to see the noticeboards, which are information boards about the project and its actions. There was also the possibility of visiting and walking along the stretch of Ribeira Grande that will be the target of intervention, and finally one of the water fountains already installed next to Vinha D’areia beach, in Vila Franca do Campo.

This visit was attended by two members of CINEA, who got to know the progress of the project, as well as some of the work taking place in the Azores.
