Planting endemic plants

Planting endemic plants

Dec. 20, 2022

On December 12 and 13, the first planting of endemic species took place in the intervention area of Pico Alto, using Picconia azorica, Laurus azorica, Ilex azorica and Morella faya, supplied by the project beneficiary, the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources, and executed by the operational team of Santa Maria Environment and Climate Change Service.

These works, under the LIFE SNAILS project, are part of the action C2 - Improvement of public forest areas for the target species: Leptaxis minor, Oxychilus agostinhoi and Plutonia angulosa. The Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, as coordinating beneficiary, expects that by the end of the project (12/2026) more than 54,000 endemic plants will have been produced in order to ensure, in the long term, a suitable habitat for the project's target species.
