LIFE BEETLES | Intervention Areas - TER1 – Terceira – Lagoa do Pinheiro

The TER1 area is located on the northeastern slope of Serra de Santa Bárbara Nature Reserve, in Lagoa do Pinheiro, located in Terceira Island, between 750 and 850 m in altitude, having somewhat time-consuming access. This is one of the habitats defined areas for the endemic beetle of Terceira, the Trechus terrabravensis. It presents a good cover of natural vegetation with Juniperus brevifolia, Erica azorica, Laurus azorica, Vaccinium cylindraceum and Ilex perado subsp. azorica. Some outbreaks of invasive species are already visible, mainly of Hedychium gardnerianum in the areas close to the outer limits of this intervention area. It is intended to enhance the original characteristics of the area, removing the outbreaks of IAS and thus promoting the improvement of the habitat quality of the resident beetle.
