LIFE IP CLIMAZ promotes meeting with the Slovenian project LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE
Oct. 14, 2022
LIFE IP CLIMAZ project promoted a Networking visit with the LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE project, coming from Slovenia, from the 26th to the 30th of September, on the island of São Miguel.
This is the only Integrated LIFE project in that country that approches climate change, focusing only on mitigation, as opposed to the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project, which in addition to mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, also ensure the adaptation of the Azores archipelago to the increasingly frequent extreme weather events. Some of the adaptation measures to be implemented in the Azores were viewed with particular interest by LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE managers.
This meeting and knowledge sharing provided the Slovenian group with the opportunity to visit some of the intervention areas of the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project, which included the Forest Nurseries of Furnas and Nordeste, and several plots where native forests will be installed, replacing invasive forests and degraded pastures. There were also visits to the Caldeirão Thermoelectric Power Station and the Geothermal Power Station. The group caould also visit the farm where the tests to reduce methane emissions will take place, and the various locations where biodiverse pastures, resilient to climate change, will be installed.
The LIFE IP CLIMAZ team introduced their guests to the AZMONIRISK project, and one of the streams that will be an intervention target carried out the Regional Directorate for Spatial Planning, one of the project's beneficiaries. There was also the possibility to show one of the drinking fountains already installed next to one of Vila Franca do Campo’s beaches, as well as the springs that are responsible for supplying this Municipality, which will also be a target of the interventions made by LIFE IP CLIMAZ.
At the end of the meeting, LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE made a presentation of its project, demonstrating the numerous and very ambitious actions that are being developed in Slovenia in the context of mitigating climate change.
