Geosites bicycle tour in the Graciosa Island Biosphere Reserve

Oct. 6, 2022

The Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change promoted the activity “Geosites bicycle tour” in the scope of the 15th anniversary of the Graciosa Island Biosphere Reserve, with about two dozen participants.

The 13 km route started at Caldeirinha de Pêro Botelho, a priority geosite of the Azores UNESCO Global Geopark, and ended at Praça Fontes Pereira de Melo. During the tour along the island's coastal area, the participants also visited other geosites, namely Porto Afonso and Redondo, Ponta da Barca and Ilhéu da Baleia and Santa Cruz da Graciosa.

Since the activity was integrated into the European Mobility Week, the snack was offered by the Graciosa Sports Service and tasted in harmony with nature at the Barro Vermelho Picnic Park.

It was undoubtedly a Saturday well spent that allowed all participants to get to know the local bio and geodiversity better, raising awareness for adopting a healthy and active lifestyle.

Stay tuned for upcoming activities of the Azores Nature Parks on your island and participate too!
