Environmental Education - Blue Flag
Sept. 29, 2022
The latest conservation project of the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, LIFE SNAILS, recently presented on the island of Santa Maria its areas of intervention and target species, as well as their characteristics and respective conservation status.
This action took place at the Santa Casa da Misericordia of Vila do Porto, in an interactive way, under the Blue Flag 2022 Program and with the aim of raising awareness among young people of the importance of protecting biodiversity.
With the support of educational resources, the project technicians described the species of fauna and flora that belong to these species’ ecosystem, as well as others that disturb it, demonstrating the snail's life cycle, emphasizing the ecological importance of this living being.
The action was attended by teachers and educational assistants and a total of 58 students, who at the end of the activity had the opportunity to build a cardboard snail, thus creating a closer relationship between the participants and these species.
