International Coastal Clean-up Day

International Coastal Clean-up Day

Sept. 17, 2022

International Coastal Clean-up Day was created to raise awareness about the problem of marine litter, which is highly damaging to biodiversity, habitat and ecosystems and causes significant losses to the fishing industry. For more than 30 years, this date has promoted community involvement in cleaning up coastal areas, thus contributing to implementing measures to minimise the impact of marine litter.

To mark this date, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change and the Regional Directorate for Maritime Policies, respectively, coordinating beneficiary and associated beneficiary of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, will promote several clean-ups in coastal, underwater and inaccessible areas, reaching several public entities and non-governmental organizations.

More coastal clean-up events will be promoted by the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project through Action C10.1 "Minimizing marine litter impact in marine coastal habitat", so stay tuned to our social media and website: www.lifeazoresnatura.eu/en.
