Congratulations to the São Miguel Wild Birds Rehabilitation Centre (CERAS)!
Aug. 17, 2022
This centre, which celebrates today its 6ᵗʰ birthday, belongs to the Azores Wild Birds Rehabilitation Centres Network, which was two more centres on Corvo and Pico.
Located on the Quinta de São Gonçalo, the São Miguel CERAS works daily with the rescue of injured, debilitated or endangered wild birds, the Cory's Shearwater (Calonectris borealis) being the most common visitor of the centre, mainly due to SOS Cagarro campaigns promoted every year.
This place until now registered more than 150 rescued and released animals and seeks to be a point of dissemination and environmental awareness, working to alert schools and the general population to the particularities and characteristics of resident and migratory birds of the Azores.
In addition to all this work, this CERAS also seeks to support projects and scientific studies about birds in the Region.
