July 1, 2022
Localized on the south bank of Lagoa das Furnas (lake), this Environmental Centre has available for visitors detailed information on the Lagoa das Furnas Hydrographic Basin Management Plan (POBHLF). This plan aims to recover its water’s quality to restructure the lake. In the Furnas Monitoring and Research Centre (CMIF), you will also have the opportunity to better get to know the history and evolution of the Furnas Volcano and its main biologic and geologic characteristics.
In the area surrounding this Centre, you will find several leisure zones, ruins of ancient kilns for the production of coal and one of the largest Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla) in the world.
Since its inauguration in 2011, CMIF counts with approximately 89,300 visitors!
