Congratulations to the Corvo Wild Birds Interpretation Centre!

Congratulations to the Corvo Wild Birds Interpretation Centre!

June 21, 2022

This Environmental Centre was inaugurated in 2007 as the Corvo Environmental and Cultural Interpretation Centre. Later, in 2019, it was refurbished and redeveloped as the Corvo Wild Birds Interpretation Centre (CIASC).

Located in the heart of the historical part of Corvo Village, in an old building restored for this purpose, this is the mandatory first stop for those who want to get to know the Nature Park and the Biosphere Reserve.

Here it is possible to explore the theme of wild birds that occur in the Archipelago, such as seabirds, waders, waterfowl, land birds and various species of birds.

Through multimedia equipment, such as the holographic display case and the interactive table, visitors can unveil the mysteries of bird life and let themselves be carried away by the sounds of the region's birdlife. Here it is possible to discover the song of one of the rarest seabirds in Europe and endemic to the Azores, the Monteiro's Storm-petrel (Hydrobates monteiroi), among many others.

Besides these contents, CIASC presents information about the practice of birdwatching, especially the observation of rare birds, since Corvo is one of the most privileged places in Europe for observing American birds.

To finish the visit to the Centre, visitors also have the possibility to take a trip to the smallest Azorean island through a virtual reality experience, thus gaining a better understanding of the interaction between Man and Nature.

Celebrate the 15th anniversary of CIASC with a visit to the Centre and live a unique experience on Corvo!
