"Energy transition in the Azores" Webinar - LIFE IP CLIMAZ

The LIFE IP CLIMAZ Project promoted a debate on energy transition in the Azores through a webinar, in which the various measures already underway and to be implemented in the Region, in this specific area, were presented and discussed.

This initiative of the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, also celebrating the 30th anniversary of LIFE Program, aimed to clarify and raise awareness among the community on this pressing issue these days, as well as to promote involvement between the various entities related to the Energy sector. Only this way will we be able to take coherent and complementary strategic action, at a time when climate change is one of the main challenges facing humanity.

During the session, some of the plans already outlined for the Archipelago were presented, namely the Azorean Energy Strategy 2030, presented by Joana Rita, Regional Director for Energy, which is expected to be reviewed within the scope of the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project with a view to the horizon 2030-2040.

The EDA Group was also present at this webinar with three different interventions: a description of the actions to be developed within the scope of the Project by Bruno Vieira, a presentation on Energy Storage by Fernando Henriques, and, finally, the Use of Water Resources in terms of energy production by Félix Rodrigues, followed by a visit to the energy production facilities on the various islands.

Another step forward in protecting our islands from climate change, which, due to their vulnerability, require special attention.
