European Maritime Day
May 20, 2022
The LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, of which the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change is the coordinating beneficiary, marks this date with the beginning of the “Regional Campaign for Coastal and Underwater Cleanups in the Azores” with 19 coastal and three underwater clean-ups scheduled in all the Region. These actions will be carried out by several entities and promoted by the Regional Secretariat for the Sea and Fisheries through the Regional Directorate for Maritime Policies, an associated beneficiary of the project. The Regional Campaign is also in partnership with the OCEANLIT project.
As in previous years, the aim is to involve all citizens, public and private entities and civic organisations in the Azores to alert society to the problem of marine litter with a view to its mitigation.
In this sense, all public and private entities and the general population are invited to participate in or organise a coastal or underwater clean-up action on their island.
Those interested in organising a clean-up action should send information about the event (date, place and organiser) to the email [email protected].
