International Museum Day

This date aims to raise awareness of the importance of museums as a means of cultural exchange, enriching cultures and developing mutual understanding, cooperation and peace between peoples.

This year's motto is “The Power of Museums”. These can transform the world as exceptional places of discovery that teach about the past and open the mind to new ideas for the construction of a better future. In our Region, the Azores Environmental Centres Network aims to promote knowledge about the natural heritage of the Archipelago.

The Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change (SRAAC) and the Azores Geopark join the Global Geoparks Network initiative to celebrate the “Power of Museums”. The date will be celebrated with the promotion of an activity aimed at the school community, which consists of a guided tour to an Environmental Interpretation Centre per island, associated with geosciences themes, followed by the environmental education action “The volcanoes of the Azores”.

In partnership with the association Os Montanheiros, SRAAC provides a virtual guided tour, for the general population, to the Machado Fagundes Volcano‑speleological Museum, island delegation of the Azores UNESCO Global Geopark on Terceira, on the YouTube page of the Azores Nature Parks: https://bit.ly/3Ls92AB
