LIFE IP AZORES NATURA begins restoration works at Lagoa do Fogo

The Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change proceed to another extensive conservation and habitat restoration action, this time at the Lagoa do Fogo (lake), on the island of São Miguel, planting about 7500 endemic species on the scene.

This intervention area was thus renaturalised through the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, with previous process in which invasive species were removed, and a subsequent planting of species characteristic of this habitat, namely 5000 specimens of Tree Heath (Erica azorica), 2200 Viburnum treleasei and 288 Calluna vulgaris.

These works are integrated in the conservation action C4.1 – Best practice for terrestrial habitat conservation – of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, with aims at the in-situ conservation of endemic species and improving the conservation status of habitat.
