Congratulations to the Terceira Nature Park!
April 20, 2022
Created 11 years ago to preserve and promote the sustainable use of the island's natural heritage, this Nature Park has the biggest set of natural vegetation areas with little or no human intervention.
One of the Park's protected areas, the Vinhas dos Biscoitos Protected Landscape Area, stands out for the coexistence of the landscape and cultural values with the coastal ecosystems. Here we higlight the presence of endemic vascular flora species, such as Daucus carota ssp. azoricus, Euphorbia azorica and Hedera azorica.
This area presents a traditional humanised landscape, of high aesthetic and productive value, with land divided into small plots delimited by stone walls, used to grow vines for producting the appreciated Biscoitos wines.
The Terceira Environment and Climate Change Service plays a fundamental role in the conservation of the areas that concern this Park by promoting actions to plant native and endemic species, remove exotic and invasive species and monitor riversides. This Island Environment and Climate Change Service is qualified to promote environmental awareness activities focused on the Natural Heritage, including interpretative trails of local geo and biodiversity, aimed at the school and general public.
