Inauguration of the Juncal's Mill on Lajes do Pico

Today is National Mills Day, and the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, in cooperation with the Lajes do Pico City Council, marks this celebration with the inauguration of the Juncal's Mill, localized on the Interpretative Circuit of the Lajes do Pico Coastal Platform. 

The coastline of this locality is classified as a Protected Area for the Management of Habitats or Species, integrated into the Pico Nature Park, and as an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area by the BirdLife International organization.

Considering its localization in the middle of the Atlantic, it is a safe haven for migratory birds, such as Arenaria interpres, Numenius phaeopus, Pluvialis squatarola, Ardea cinerea and Egretta garzetta, either to "stopover" and rest between flights or to stay for an extended period to nest.
