Waste Processing Centers on Pico and Faial islands awarded in the “Best Performance, More Recycling” contest

The Waste Processing Center (WPC) on the islands of Pico and Faial were highlighted in the “Best Performance, More Recycling” contest, promoted by the management entity Sociedade Ponto Verde and Tetra Pak.
The distinction was due to the considerable increase in the amount of cardboard packaging for liquid food (ECAL) in 2021, which, in the case of the island of Pico, represented a 200% increase, making it the big winner of the €10,000.
In addition to Resiaçores Pico, other SGRUs closed the year with very positive results, with praise being given to the work and commitment of the communities that also contributed to the results obtained in the areas of AmarsuL, Resiaçores do Faial, Ambilital, Ersul and Valorsul.
The prize awarded in these initiatives reverts to local solidarity institutions.
This positive result is a reflection of the optimization of the management of WPC, as treatment destinations on smaller islands, in line with the municipalities responsible for collection, as well as the adhesion of the local community.
Betting on the separation of packaging waste is everyone's mission, and the main agents in the waste sector must continue and improve the process, towards a Circular Economy in the Azores.
