LIFE IP CLIMAZ began the preparation of the intervention and clearing works of several streams of the Azores

The flooding risks and consequent damage to the communities near riparian zones are increasingly a concern to the inhabitants of these areas but also to the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change. Thus, this regional institution intends to mitigate this problem by preparing and planning the interventions in the field, assured by the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project, which will take place later on with the hiring of 18 field workers. A drone that makes recognition flights of the terrain is helping to gather the necessary information, allowing an inventory of the existing flora and characterising the types of bed and banks of the stream.

The following streams will undergo interventions: Ribeira Grande, on Flores; Ribeira da Conceição, on Faial; Ribeira do Dilúvio, on Pico; Ribeira Seca, on São Jorge; Ribeira da Agualva, Ribeira do Tapete, Ribeira do Testo, Ribeira da Casa da Ribeira, Ribeira de São Bento, Ribeira das 12 and Grota das 8, on Terceira; Ribeira Grande, Ribeira da Povoação, Grota da Areia and Grota do Cinzeiro, on São Miguel; and Ribeira de Santa Bárbara, on Santa Maria.
