Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change on the front line of ecological restoration and combating invasive flora in the Azores

The invasive flora species have a strong dispersion ability, being very competitive and able to put at risk the biodiversity of ecosystems in which they are present.

It is the case of Ribeira do Fundão (stream), a habitat that was highly rundown and where the Ironclad Beetle lives, endemic to the island of Flores.

The Government of the Azores has started a great effort to recover these habitat through invasive flora removal actions, such as this example carried out by the LIFE BEETLES project, with very positive results, as demonstrated with this intervention.

With the financial support of the LIFE Programme of the European Union.
