Purchases of new electric cars increased 81% in 2021
Feb. 10, 2022
In the Azores, the acquisition of new electric cars increased 81% in 2021 compared to 2020, totaling 269 vehicles purchased in the Archipelago last year.
Of these, 262 are light vehicles and 7 are commercial vehicles, according to data published by the Regional Statistics Service of the Azores (SREA).
It should be recalled that 149 new electric cars were introduced in the Region in 2020, maintaining the growth trend in sales of these vehicles in the Archipelago. Since 2015, the accumulated sale of 655 units has been counted.
The promotion of electric mobility in the Azores is a strategic option of the Regional Government, with positive impacts on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Thus, under the LIFE IP CLIMAZ project, actions are planned in this area, among which stands out the strengthening of the public network of charging points in the Archipelago.
